The ADA Library is experiencing rapid growth in its collections and services. Assistant Librarian assists with teaching information literacy, using library-specific databases and bibliographic management software at the Reference desk and participates in the development and implementation of unit operational policies and procedures to support current and future operational objectives. The person in this position also assists daily operations, services, and staffing for instructional, reference, and e-resource services. Along with providing friendly, prompt and accurate service to users at the Reference desk, the position is also responsible for arranging consultations and library instruction sessions.

This position dealing with different types of patrons, and working with the ADA University Library Catalog, full text journals, and other print and electronic resources.
This position is under the Supervision of the Head of Research and Instructional Services and works very closely with the other departments. S/he adheres to an excellent client oriented approach. The instructional language of ADA is English.


• An MLS degree or equivalent and fluency in written and oral English;
• Minimum 2 years library experience, preferably in an academic setting;
• Demonstrated/documented evidence of successful performance in an automated academic library;
• Experience with electronic resources and data mining;
• Knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues and trends in library technologies and ability to view issues from a broad library-wide perspective;
• Evidence of effective interpersonal communication, analytical and organizational skills;
• Ability to lead, envision, and plan for future directions and has excellent problem solving skills;
• Commitment to excellent client services to a culturally diverse user base;
• Knowledge of trends and issues facing international standard in libraries;
• Experience with a range of information technologies for web-based services;
• Experience with a bibliographic utility and an integrated library system;
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
• Superior problem-solving and organizational skills;
• Strong analytical skills as demonstrated in previous work assignments are essential;
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to rapid change and to exercise creativity and initiative;
• Must have strong commitment to service, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment, with all levels of patrons and staff.


The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
• Selecting and searching the libraries’ online catalogs, databases, and the internet
• Providing high level research assistance to faculty, students, and staff in support of learning, teaching, and research by employing a strong knowledge of resources, search strategies, and services;
• Responding to reference and frontline services questions;
• Providing instruction on the use of online catalog and other library research databases;
• Referring complex questions to a reference librarian
• Creating patron account for students for access to e-books;
• Preparing print and electronic instruction tools, and assist in monitoring and developing web pages;
• Helping define information literacy objectives by discipline, to design/refine library-based assignments;
• Responsible for individual development as a professional librarian by continual reading and awareness of the literature of librarianship and developments within the national, regional and international level library world by attendance at conferences, institutes, seminars, etc.;
• Perform other library duties and participate in library projects as assigned by the supervisor (Head of Research and Instructional Services)
